  1. Avicenna (980¬≠1037) was an Iranian philosopher and physician. He wrote 
  2. the influential yet controversial Book of Healing  (Kitab ash-Shifa) which 
  3. contains numerous treatises on topics including Aristotelian logic, the 
  4. natural sciences, metaphysics and psychology. His own philosophy went 
  5. against orthodox Islamic thinking. He denied the concept of personal 
  6. immortality and believed that God had no interest in individuals.
